Xie Mo was born in 1962 in Haikou, South China's Hainan Province. He finished his studies of shipbuilding and design at Jiatong University in Shanghai, and then had his first camera in 1989. Four years later, he opened "Chun Se", a studio specialising in black & white portraits in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong Province.
Xie Mo has specialised in portraits but readily photographs dance and landscapes as well. In 2001, he was chosen as the Hasselblad Masters. Xie's work appeared in the Hasselblad Calendar for 2001 where it says, "Xie Mo reminds us what fashion is really all about - feeling good about ourselves."

In his writings, Xie Mo said that he divided those women who take nude photography into four groups. First, women who are proud of their body shape after giving brith to a baby. Second, mother-to-be women who are worried of not getting back in shape. Third, pre-marriage women who are worried of losing free time after marriage. A young Chinese couple have been married for eight years. To outsiders, they are a perfect couple, a 'model family' in their community. In all this time, however, she has never experienced the euphoria of orgasm.

To maintain their marriage, she has never told this to her husband. But now the pain is too much to endure. She has told her husband he could find a mistress; her husband begs doctors to find a solution for his wife to recover her sexual desire.

Until that time, his wife had never sought any medical help, or even communicated to her husband about the problem.

In a recent on-line survey about Chinese women's sexual situation, only 7 per cent expressed they will seek help from doctors if they have problem with sex. An amazing 37 per cent chose not to seek any help at all, with the remainder seeking help from the Internet or by reading relevant books.

The survey, held by the China Sexology Association and Sina.com, was conducted between August 22 and September 31, and was completed by more than 32,000 people. Although thorough analysis is still continuing, some preliminary results have been released.

Being an on-line survey, the domicile group who participated in the survey is assumed to be highly educated females living in large- or medium-sized Chinese cities, aged between 21 and 49 years old. As they are also Chinese Internet surfers, it is believed that they also have a knowledge about sex.

As high as 87 per cent of the women believe they have pleasure having sex, while only 6 per cent of the surveyed say they never reached orgasm. Thirty-three per cent say they will tell their partners if they want sex, and 53 per cent say they will give their partners a hint about their objective.

If they don't want to make love, but their partner request it, half say they will choose to comply, while the other half will tactfully refuse or communicate well with their partners.

"The findings reveal that, generally speaking, the group of women surveyed are confident and independent. They know how to express their feelings for sexual activity, care for themselves and know that communicating is important."

This result, however, contrasts some major aspects of another survey conducted by Pan Suiming, a scholar at Renmin University of China, in 1999-2000.

According to Pan's survey, only 6.8 per cent of Chinese women have experience of masturbation; nearly 80 per cent of Chinese women did not know exactly what orgasm is; as many as 62.8 per cent of women did not even know the location of clitoris.

"These results are hardly convincing from our clinical experience," observed Ma Xiaonian, director commissioner of the Professional Committee of China Sexology Association.

His association's findings on the Internet show that more than 60 per cent of women admit that they masturbated, 37 per cent admit they often have orgasm, and only 6 per cent say that they never had an orgasm. Eighteen per cent are "very satisfied" with their sex life, and 49 per cent are "relatively satisfied."

"These results are much closer to international statistics," observed Ma.

Besides not seeing doctors for their sexual problems, 75 per cent of women reported they experienced insufficient lubrication of the vagina, a big minus in the quality of sex life.

And although 55 per cent of the surveyed say they often change positions, the use of products to assist in sexual intercourse is very low. In America, 67 per cent of partners use lubricant, while 81 per cent of the Chinese say they never use such utilities.

The shy, reserved and submissive Chinese woman is no longer a proper stereotype -- if it ever were -- as a recent survey suggests modern Chinese women want to be seen as sexy, healthy and smart.

Nearly 340,000 people voted on-line in a poll that asked respondents to select ten key words describing the charm of Chinese women. Sexy ranked fourth, after elegant, intelligent and healthy.

"We women love to talk about our experience of how to make our breasts larger and also how to lift our hips and keep our wrists smaller," the 20-something Ms. Chen said when giving her reasons for wanting to be considered "sexy".

The thinking marks a profound change in attitude. China became more open to the outside world in the decade Chen was born at a time when women used to wear thick clothes to hide their bodies.

The past two-decades of social and economic development have transformed the traditional Chinese concept of womanhood. Baidu.com, China's largest Chinese language Internet search engine, lists over 36 million hits relating to the word "sexy", a word that would be rarely uttered by past generations.

The idea of staying in fashion has also spurned an industry as trendy underwear boutiques, fitness salons and fashion magazines and shows have become increasingly popular.

Chinese women are now taller and have bigger bust size compared with a decade ago, thanks largely to better living conditions, particularly a balanced diet.

The average bust size of Chinese women swelled by one centimeter and their average height increased by 0.5 centimeter, according to a research by the Beijing Institute of Clothing Technology.

The sample monitoring on nearly 3,000 females aging from 18 to 55 over the past six years showed Chinese women are taking on an S-shaped figure, compared with a flat shape in the 1990s.

The Beijing Evening News said the change in women's figure, which is also owed to more sports and keep-fit activities, provides a "wonderful" opportunity for underwear makers.

It is predicted that China's underwear market will grow 20 percent annually in the coming 10 years. Last year, the market recorded an estimated sales of 140 billion yuan (17.3 billion U.S.dollars).

Nude Photos Controversial in China
University freshman Zhen Zhen just had her photo taken in the nude, something she plans to haul out in the future to remind herself of those younger, firmer days.

The 19-year-old resident of southwest China's Chongqing city says that even though she did travel 500 kilometers to the Sichuan provincial capital Chengdu -- where no one would know her -- to pose for a local photographer, there's nothing wrong with nude photos, they aren't necessarily expensive, and it's not illegal.

"I think it's indecent," sniffs her mother, Chen, who was cleaning her daughter's room when she came across the photo in a bookcase.

Like others of her generation, Chen says the popularity of nude photographs among young people is just one more sign of moral decay in modern China.

Zhen says she just wants a record of her history, and her boyfriend, who accompanied her on the photo shoot, says it's nobody's business but Zhen's.

On the other side of the argument, a 50-year-old teacher from Sichuan Education College, who declined to give her name, said young people should focus their attention on their studies. "Taking nude photos cannot be simply explained as degeneration; it reflects unhealthy psyches," she commented.

Other girls in Chongqing are even braver than Zhen, deciding to get their pictures taken in the nude by hometown photographers.

Liu Mei had her photograph taken in the nude as a 19th birthday present to herself. The total cost for the pictures was 1,000 yuan (US$120).

Nude photo fees range from several hundred to several thousand yuan.

A journalist said she had many nude photos taken during her pregnancy. "It is my history, and also the growth history of my daughter," she said. "I would have done as Zhen Zhen has done if people in my time lived the way they live today."

Nude art has always been a very sensitive topic in China.

A Chinese exhibition of nude paintings in the mid-1980s stirred up the hottest debate ever over this branch of art. The husband of a women who had modeled nude for some of the paintings threatened her with divorce when she was recognized by others in the pictures.

To date, there is no law in China which prohibits taking nude photos.

"Taking nude photos is a serious art," said He Shan, a photographer in Chengdu. "It is a challenge both for the photographer and his client," he added.

He said that the work is strictly monitored from the beginning to the end. He is helped by three female assistants when taking photos, and negatives and damaged photos from each shoot are usually destroyed in front of the clients.

Ge Peng, a photographer from the Yuan Ye photo studio in Chengdu who snapped Zhen Zhen's pictures, said he has a problem with people's double standards when it comes to nudity in art.

"Men and women all appreciate nudity in paintings, so what's wrong with it in photographs?" he asked.

Girlfriend Gets Last Laugh in Murder-for-Hire Plot

A 26-year-old male IT employee known as Lee, enjoyed working alongside
a 32-year-old woman identified as Park, and the pair began dating back
in 2004. They were on again off again for a while, but in July of this
year, Park confessed to being three months pregnant. Lee was in shock,
as for the past two months he'd been seeing another woman secretly and
had even promised to marry her. Lee asked Park to get an abortion, but
she refused, leaving him in a deep hole. It was then that he decided
having Park murdered was his best option and took up the search to
find a willing hit-man on the Internet in October. Lee found the
required serviceman and wrote him an email explaining that he should
"Kidnap her and bury her in secret." If the job was carried out
successfully, the agreed price was W11 million (US$1=W930). Lee
borrowed W12 million from his new girlfriend telling her that he had
his reasons.

However the hit man had a heart, and instead of executing the plan, he
called Park and told her the whole story. The two put their heads
together and came up with a plan of their own that would trick Lee
into believing Park had indeed been killed. Park returned home and
poured red dye on newspapers to resemble horrific blood shed, took a
photo with her cell phone and sent it to the hired killer. With
picture in hand the hit-man showed Lee that business had been taken
care of and received his money as per their agreement. After getting
an abortion, Park reported the incident to the police. Bangbae Police
Station, Seoul, issued an arrest warrant for Lee Thursday and is in
pursuit of the hired killer, who is still on the run.
